Academy of Tribal Languages & Culture (ATLC)

The salient objectives of the Academy are as follows:

  1. to promote cooperation among men of letters and literary associations, schools, colleges, universities and cultural organization, for development of tribal dialects, art and culture.
  2. to promote the learning of tribal dialects including imparting training on tribal dialects of major tribal units in the State.
  3. to promote the study, dissemination and compilation of tribal literature.
  4. to encourage or to arrange preparation of primers on major tribal dialects to facilitate training of the same.
  5. to publish or to assist associations and individuals in publishing literary works including bibliographies and bilingual or multi-lingual dictionaries on tribal dialects.
  6. to sponsor or to hold conferences, seminars and exhibitions.
  7. to award prizes and certificates to individuals after their successful completion of learning of a recognized tribal dialects.
  8. to promote research in tribal dialects, tribal art and culture and to encourage propagation of such study.
  9. to collect, compile and publish tribal folk songs and tribal folk tales.
  10. to encourage and promote study and research in the field of tribal paintings, sculpture, architecture & applied arts.
  11. to set up institutions to provide training and research in various fields of tribal dialects, tribal art and culture.
  12. to promote establishment of tribal art and culture centres at district levels.
  13. to foster cultural contracts within the State and outside through tribal art exhibitions.
  14. to award scholarships and prizes to deserving tribal artists.
  15. to accord recognition to tribal artists for outstanding achievements.
  16. to encourage and foster the revival and development of tribal folk art and culture.
  17. to encourage theatre, opera in tribal dialects suitable for the rural areas and to give aid and guidance for that purpose to institutions working in that direction.
  18. to encourage and assist staging of new plays in tribal dialects by awarding prizes and distinction.
  19. to encourage and display tribal folk dance and music in different parts of the State.
  20. to encourage and organize adult literacy centres in the tribal areas for eradication of illiteracy in tribal concentrated pockets.
  21. to purchase, take on lease or in exchange, hire or otherwise acquire any role or personal property and any rights of privileges which the Association may think necessary or convenient for the purpose of achievements of its objects.
  22. To receive grants, gifts, donations, loans, advances or other money on deposits or otherwise from the Odisha Government or the Government of India or cooperative or commercial banks, Life Insurance Corporation of India, Companies, trusts or individuals with or without allowances or interest thereon in pursuance of the above objects.
  23. to indicate such other activities from time to time as may be deemed necessary, conducive, incidental or ancillary for the development of tribal dialects, tribal art and culture.
  24. to create suitable posts and to appoint staff of its own or to take Government Officers on deputation as may be necessary from time to time to carry out the objectives of the association and to fix their emoluments, remuneration, gratuity, provident fund contribution etc. as may be necessary from time to time.
  25. to do such other acts and things as may be required to further the objects of the Association.
