Banaja
Banaja is identified as the mouthpiece of the Academy of the Tribal Languages and Culture (ATLC). Originated as a souvenir; Banaja was first released during the Annual Adivasi Mela in 1989. Recognizing the importance of applied social research in promoting and transforming the culture of the tribals of Odisha, there is a proposal for the periodic publication of Banaja as a Bilingual research journal.
ATLC gathers articles from academicians, researchers, scholars, and enthusiasts, covering various aspects of Odisha's tribes like their way of life, traditions, culture, clothing, food habits, indigenous knowledge, and languages. This aims to showcase the rich heritage of tribal communities of Odisha.
Initially, in 1989, Banaja received articles from academics and researchers without a specific theme. Over a decade, it was decided to focus on theme-based articles related to the tribes of Odisha. Starting from 2006, Banaja has been published with themed articles. Responding to the requests of researchers and scholars, Banaja was released with its ISBN number for the first time in 2023.
